Think
of it. Stuffing all your gear into the vehicle and cramping
everyone or just leaving some of it behind may not be the
best way to go. There are many great utility trailers out there
that are easy to pull. Usually you won't need to make a bunch of
modifications to your vehicle as most come pre-wired for trailer
lighting. Don't worry about having to tie into your brake system
either, as there is a feature known as a "Surge Brake
System" that eliminates the need for any mechanical changes
to your vehicle. Surge brakes can detect your slowing and automatically
begin to apply the trailer brakes. The harder you brake the
harder the trailer brakes.
How much time is
involved in packing. A lot, right and if you want to leave on
Friday after work, you would probably have to pack all your
stuff in the vehicle and drag it to work with you. All
this just so you can get to head for the hills at a
reasonable hour. When you get to where you want to be inevitably
you will find that in your haste, something important has been forgotten.
How about the
frequency at which you get to get out of town. That is also hurt
by the fact that you are deterred by all the planning. gathering
and packing and upon getting back home you have to unpack and
haul it up to the attic, or squeezing it onto a shelf in the
garage.
All that can be avoided
by selecting a trailer that will comfortably hold all your gear.
This way everything can be loaded up well in advance and as soon
as you get off you can hitch it up and head out. If you are
fortunate enough to be able to afford a covered trailer and you
have a location where you can park it, then you can put a lock on it and just leave everything in it (except perishable goods).
How nice is that? Anytime you want to go, you just grab it and
get the heck out of Dodge.
Trailers come in all sorts of
configurations, anything from a tandem trail that is pulled behind a
motorcycle, to a covered or enclosed trailer that range in all
sizes. A typical trailer is usually a
rectangular box shape that is the optimal shape for packing but many are built
for specific applications with a water tight utility box attached to
it. You can even get a trailer for hauling a car or horses with plush
living quarters in the front portion.
If you plan to leave your
trailer in a "ready to go" condition, be sure to keep it in a secure
location and place a tongue lock and/or a wheel lock and don't keep
guns in it while it is in storage.
If you don't have a yard or
are in a community that will not allow you to keep it in the open you
may have to keep it in the garage or in a storage shed in the
backyard. Many condos or apartment complexes will have a place that
people can keep a trailer and if not, maybe you have a friend that has
room. If all else fails you can usually rent space at a storage
facility for a few dollars a month. Some people will choose to leave
the trailer outside of the city somewhere nearer to their frequent destination.
The great thing is you can
take things you would normally not have room for.
