A healthy activity enjoyed by people of all
ages in all locations of the world. Given the climatic differences, a variety of
methods have to be employed. Some people prefer to grow only those items that
produce food for the table while others grow for the beauty of the plant or it's
flower. In the latter group you will find Orchid collectors, Rose breeders and
hibiscus enthusiasts. Each form of gardening has it's own rewards and
requirements. You can't grow most orchids in the sandy soil or in the sun while
on the other hand Hibiscus loves this combination. Learning the needs of a
particular plant is part of the joy derived from gardening.
Because of the great diversity of plants
this section will be broke down into categories reflecting climates and then
further into the types of plants - trees , shrubs, ground cover, collectibles
and so on. Each of these also have divisions, such as in Trees your will have
Shade trees (generally considered to be broadleaf types), and then palm trees,
coniferous, ornamental and fruit trees.
Zones are commonly used to signify a
temperature range of highs and lows and where absolutely necessary we will refer
to these. For the most part we will use Frigid, Temperate, Sub Tropical and
Tropical. Other term used are arid, moist and saturated to signify the amount of
moisture generlally present in the soil. That bring us into seasons which can be
referred to in the normal terminology such as spring,
summer, fall and winter
but not be left out are such terms as wet or rainy season and dry season which
vary from location to location.
