Pine Nuts

Pine cones of all varieties  have edible seeds. Some are bigger than others. The Pinion seeds found in the western States are perhaps the largest. The unopened mature cones (Fall and winter) or partially opened (spring) will contain the seeds (nuts) and can be collected and placed near a fire to encourage them to open. The pitch is a nuisance but can rubbed in sand immediately to help remove.

Do not bother with spent cones. see on lower  left
