Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding has been compared to surfboarding, skateboarding and snowboarding as well as water skiing, slalom skiing and downhill skiing. It was originally called skurfboarding but now that term "Skurfboarding" is reserved for a sand dune version of the sport. That right I said sand dune skurfing. And although the concept of wakeboarding is similar to water skiing, the broader surface area of the board is supposed to makes it easier. Yeah sure. Unlike the face-front stance of water skiing, wakeboarder's feet are strapped perpendicular to a single board, much like the positioning of a surfer, snowboarder or skateboarder. At least you don't have to worry about the skis running off in different directions and splitting you like a wishbone. Being towed behind anything that has, oh say, 200 HP or more is not easy, at least not at first. Just getting the board on in the water is a challenge. The boards have buoyancy, in other words they float, Which means that as you are attempting to get your feet in the binding, it is trying to float to the surface. This has the effect of rolling you over into a heads down and feet up position. Not a great way to start your first lesson.
