Wetaskiwin’s MacEachern Tea House,
Alberta’s oldest continuously-operating tea house, is located in an
historic home that recently turned 100 year old. Amid the period fittings, enjoy
homemade scones, preserves and Devonshire cream.
Experience the charm of the past at this 100 year old house. The MacEachern
Teahouse was built in 1903 and owned by Duncan MacEachern, an early pioneer
of Wetaskiwin, who lived in the house until the early 1950's. Their quality
homemade products will make your catered reception, meeting or dinner an
occasion to remember.

Near Drumheller, Delia’s 1912 Crown Lumber Building sat empty for 30
years, before being restored by the proprietors of Mother’s Mountain Tea
House and Restaurant, where desserts are their specialty, including their
renowned Saskatoon pie. (For details, call 403-364-2057).
The Arbour in Edmonton’s Rutherford
House Provincial Historic Site – the 1911 mansion built for Alberta’s
first premier – relies on historical recipes from the era for its menu,
which includes a high tea. (To reserve a table, call 780-422-2697).
Early last century, ladies and gentlemen who hiked the Rockies liked a good
‘cuppa’ for refreshment. Their legacy lingers in the Lake Louise area at
the
Lake
Agnes Tea House and
The
Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House. Both feature rustic surroundings and
goodies created by hand (no electricity!) – not to mention jaw-dropping
views of glaciers and cerulean blue lakes. Be prepared for a significant climb
(about two hours one way) to reach either one (there’s more elevation gain
on the Lake Agnes circuit). Hardy hikers may want to take the trail (another
stiff climb) connecting the two.
Another highlight on the tea trail is a cup at Waterton Lakes National
Park’s historic Prince
of Wales Hotel where you can almost drive to your table. You see the tea
room is a mere stroll across the lobby, which still offers an unsurpassed view
of the upper lake and surrounding peaks. The house tea is especially blended
to complement the water and is available to take home. Book a tour of the
hotel, followed by high tea. (To reserve a table, call 403-859-2231)
