British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province and is one of North America's most mountainous regions. It is bounded on the north by Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories; on the east by Alberta; on the south by the states of Montana, Idaho, and Washington; and on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska. The crest of the Rocky Mountains forms the southeastern boundary. The province is the only part of Canada on the Pacific Ocean, and it includes Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands off the western coast. British Columbia is Canada’s third largest province in area and population, behind Québec and Ontario. Much of it is rugged and mountainous. While forestry, mining, fishing and agriculture remain important to B.C.'s economy, there is strong growth in new industries such as eco-tourism, film and high tech. British Columbia is Canada's gateway to the Asia-Pacific and is economically and geographically part of the northwest region of North America. More than half the population lives in the southwestern corner of the province, which includes the largest city, Vancouver, and the provincial capital, Victoria located on Vancouver Island.

The British Columbia coastal area is blessed like no other. Living in the area put you with in only a few miles of the inland regions graced with Mountains and Skiing or forested hills and valleys ribboned by fresh water streams and rivers. In the opposite direction and again only minutes away is some of the greatest sailing, fishing and aquatic sports, all taking place in the straits and between the hundreds of forest covered islands. The temperature is generally mild as a result if the warm Chinese current that flow just off-shore.

Princess Royal Island, home of the legendary Kermode or Spirit Bear

These islands, part of the chain of 6,000 islands that shelter the British Columbia coastline between Washington and Alaska, lie beyond the quick-access range of Vancouver and Victoria. Located between Campbell River and the mainland of British Columbia, the Discovery Islands dot the intricate waterways in some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

Vancouver

While the largest city in BC it is not the capitol. That honor goes to Victoria on Vancouver Island. While both cities enjoy the temperate climate that this region is fortunate to have, Vancouver being on the mainland has given it a leg up on population growth. Much of Vancouver's newest residences came from Asia and Hong Kong in particular. There was a mass exodus just as the Island of Hong Kong was being returned by the British to China in 1999.
Vancouver Skyline from Stanley Park

Vancouver sits in the Frazer Valley Basin and has mountains to it's rear and  a bay to the West. Snuggled along the Southwestern edge of the bay is Stanley Park known for it's flora and fauna surrounded by intense development.
