Ringing Ear Syndrome

"Tinnitus"

Tinnitus or Ringing Ear syndrome is prevalent in both males and females and can occur at any age but is more prevalent in the aged.

Symptoms:
This is sometimes an annoying slight buzzing or even a distinct metallic ringing and even an almst rumbling sound heard in thear/s even when there is no external sound source contributing to it. In some rarer cases it is accompanied by vertigo (dizziness) or a physical sensation of fullness in the ear.

Causes:
There are several possible contributing factors and some that have been pinpointed as actual causes:
A blockage of ear wax in  canal  can increase pressure on the ear drum causing it to reverberate and give the indication of ringing.
Exposure to loud noise can lead a ghost imprint on the nerve ending of the Cochlea (inner ear).
Ear infection, Eustachian tube, or sinus infection.
Impact injury resulting from a head injury, jarring, or explosive concussion.
Deterioration of the bones of the middle ear.
Very rarely it may be case by tumors of the middle ear.
Meniere disease (Fluid regulation disorder of the inner ear)
  Presbycusis - Age-related hearing loss
The ever annoying stress, hypertension or raised blood pressure.
Reactions to common foods (ex: Hot Chocolate)
Side effects from medications (Over 200 medicines list tinnitus as a possible side effect, including Aspirin).
Foreign object in the ear, such as a loose ear hair, or dirt particle.
Perforated eardrum and water or cold air intrusion.
Physical injury by the insertion of some item smaller than your elbow in your ear.

Remedies:
Any remedies that you attempt are entirely at your risk and you are advised to see a doctor to determine the exact cause and procedure for curing the problem. Listed below are some folk remedy which have proven effective for many people Specifically see the neck exercise:

Ear wax removal is often accomplished by inserting warm Olive oil in the ear (not under pressure) to flush out ear wax.
Irrigating the ear with tepid water to flush out foreign objects. Lay head on side to drain, do not attempt to use a cotton swab deep within your ear as this can cause severe damage and worsen the problem or cause new problems.
Rest in a quiet place to allow the ghost imprint to fade ( consider playing "white noise" (seaside sound etc) in the background as a distraction)
Impact injuries, Tumors, Meniere disease, and infections should be examined and treated by a physician.
Food  and medication reactions may be able to controlled by removing the cause. Take note of what you ingested during the proceeding 24 hours and see if there is a pattern that would point to a particular item that can then be eliminated or accept that you  may develop a persistent ringing after consuming the culprit.
Stress is best dealt with by overcoming whatever is causing the stress. When this is not expedient than removing the stress cause from your life may help not only in tinnitus be in hypertension as well. However many of us are reluctant to take such measures and must resort to dedicated periods of relaxation where you can clear your mind, possibly meditate and if you are a Christian then pray as the Holy Spirit was sent as the comforter (John 14:26). See also the exercises below
An over the counter decongestant such as Sudafed may help to drain the fluids in the ear and is used by scuba divers after they surface.
Neck exercise has proven to be one of the best methods of relieving the annoying ringing sensations. Stand fully erect allow arms to dangle at your sides. Place your chin on your chest, then slowly rotate your head slowly counter clockwise and attempt to extend it a little further with each revolution. Do this for 3 revolutions then pause before rotating it the opposite direction. Follow this by dropping your chin to your chest and then slowly rock your head toward your back and then forward again, letting it rest in the forward and back most positions while again extending  your neck a little further on each cycle. Perform similar side to side tilting of your head. Each action is to be done 3 times slowly and preferably in the morning and the evening. It may take a few regiments of this exercise but ultimately you should experience a ring free existence. Now mind you this is not a cure all but has produced favorable results.
