How to use these chord chart

For the novice you will place the tip of a finger of your left  hand on the indicated string  and behind the fret. The following chords are both a "C" chord  the first being the basic chord and the second a basic "Bar chord".
In the diagrams, the topside where the letter is, is the end of the neck closest to the tuning keys. The right hand side of the diagram would be the side of the neck that faces down when held in the right-handed player mode. The first chord is played with the left hand up against the string guide whereas the second example would have your index finger covering the lower 5 strings between the 2nd and 3rd little brass bars called a "fret" and then your other three fingers stretched out to cover the additionally indicated three strings.

                                  

Following this concept should have you able to interpret any chord shown in these charts. You don't need to remember all of the chords as most songs use between 3 to 5 chords, so you only have to remember the chords for the particular song.
