The History of the
Hallelujah House - Ranch Challenge -Hallelujah People

This is a work in Progress and anyone who can contribute to this is encouraged to do. When I say contribute I mean Photos, the recounting of memories and corrections to what is written. Now mind you your viewpoint may vary from another persons and where the difference is significant enough both version might be posted and then depending on the feedback we will determine what makes the final cut. The email address to sent any submissions to is hh@wut2.com . This shall be an exercise in memory, gossip and gatherings of the internet and will likely seem disjointed for some time to come but bear with it and the project should someday make perfect sense.

The Hallelujah House was never an off shoot of a large established Church but came about by a few intrepid individuals who met in Naples Florida. Bill Brown his wife Chrissy, and  David and Kathy Skinner  hitchhiked over from the Ft Lauderdale area and began to spread the word of Christ. Their ministry was primarily one of handing out tracs at the beach and telling people "You know Jesus loves you". Some people rejected this approach as the "Jesus Movement" was just taking hold and most folks still felt that their religion was a private thing, something to be hidden except on certain major holidays. However there were some who did accept the Word and became Christians. To the horror of their friends and neighbors these new Christians quit doing sinful acts and began praising GOD in PUBLIC. These zealous individuals met up with Margo who at the time had a riding stable/school. There was a common bond between them, in Christ Jesus as Margo was known for her love of Jesus. A very close relationship formed between her and the kids from Ft. Lauderdale  Seeing as how they had no building to congregate in they began to have meetings and bible studies at Margo's mother's house. Some even wound up living there, so one might say that Margo was the mother of the house. Her selfless efforts are to be recognized and commended, without which the organization would not likely have come together.

People who became an integral part of the House were some of the first people who became saved by this handful of believers.

Joel Harris was drawn the group while they were having a bonfire on the beach one evening and became a devout Christian and later an elder in the organization.

Jack Oliphant who later was known as "brother Jack" was not the originator as is often thought (Christ was) but he himself was a convert of the ministry  as he would often testify. His was a testimony of being a loner and a drunk, living out in a small trailer in the middle of a horse pasture. Just how he came to be a Christian is not clear at this time, but he did and then wound up marrying Margo. He was a driving force toward forming a cohesive organization and would go on to become the recognized earthly leader of the group.

The beach ministry which was growing with the addition of new Christians, met with some resistance by the city officials and was becoming a frequent and major story in the local newspaper. This attention just seemed to help with the growth of the group this compelled them to find a fixed location, rather that just wandering around and handing out tracs through out the city. They located a warehouse in the industrial park off of airport road (3500 Prospect Ave.) This was to be the first House.

A lot of renovation was required to make it into a place you would want to invite GOD into and to accommodate the the growing mass of people who found they no longer fit in with their old friends and lifestyle and wanted to be close to those who believed as they now did. Because all organizations need order they began to form a more excellent union  (borrowed) and the Hallelujah House began to take shape with duties and titles being handed out. (oh, remember the duties)

More to come  Check back but better still send me some help with this project as I am going on memory and what I have been told. hh@wut2.com  I desperately need input about the Ft, Wayne Ministry, Octave, and the Ranch Challenge at Wickenburg. Also if there were or are any splinter groups such as the one that unintentionally formed here in Naples once again in 1975. I need to be able to include them here as well in order to be complete.

If you can, please type it out and send it in as a .doc or .txt file as this will speed things up. I still point and type hen peck style. However I will take the information however I can get it and muddle through until it has some resemblance of an article. Photocopies or scanned images should be sent in fairly high resolution 300X300 or as large as your email service will permit. This is for clarity and will be edited  for publishing. I can also work with negatives or slides, which I will digitize and then return. So you see anything will help.
